From the early 19th Century until about 1930 there was an active Jewish community in Sprendlingen. Jews first began to live in Sprendlingen in the 17th Century. On December 7, 1695 was recorded in the town's tax records that the collection of the Jewish pasture fees stopped because the last Jew is moved away. During the 18th Century Jews moved back, but are first mentioned in 1765. During the 19th Century the number of Jewish residents grew as follows: 1824 130 persons, 1828 132 people , 177 people in 1861 (9.4% of the total population of 1878 people), 1880 146 (7.3% of 1,998) , 1890 128, 1905 113 (4.9% of 2,300), 1910 74 (3.5% of 2,122). The figures show that after 1900 a large number of Jewish people of Sprendlingen left for educational reasons or migration. A synagogue, a religious school, a ritual bath and a Jewish cemetery were established and the congregation hired a teacher, cantor and shochet (ritual slaughterer). By 1900 the community had only 14 school-age children. A teaching position was advertised again in 1893 and 1900 - in both cases signed the former community leader Louis Schloss).
